Mentoring Scheme

Blackburn Referees believe that every official must have every opportunity to develop their refereeing skills to the maximum of their potential.

Not every official will make it to the top of the ladder and much of the effort required to get there comes from the individual’s hard work and application to the task.

In the beginning most officials are unsure of what to do and how to do it in order to progress up the refereeing ladder.

It is incumbent on local associations and societies to work alongside county football associations to help each official within it’s geographical area and facilitate their development.

In Lancashire the mentor scheme is co-ordinated by Dean Mohareb.

Steve Blackburn is Blackburn’s mentoring co-ordinator and he works closely with Dean.

Steve has established close working ties with the Accrington Referees co-ordinator and other co-ordinators throughout the county.

All newly qualified referees are encouraged to join their local society to benefit from meeting with senior colleagues at training nights and are assigned a mentor. Non members should also receive similar consideration  as their development is also important to the local area and will strengthen local football.

Below is a link to a pdf document that outlines how mentors work.

If you do not have a mentor assigned and wish to have one then please contact Steve Blackburn on 01254 813523

We are recruiting mentors for our scheme. If you are interested please contact Steve Blackburn
